Liverpool have officially completed the signing of centre-back Jérémy Jacquet from Stade Rennais on a long-term contract in a deal worth an initial £55 million, with a further £5 million in performance-related add-ons.
The transfer became official on July 1, although it remains subject to the completion of a work permit and international clearance. The 20-year-old, who stands 1.90 metres tall, is regarded as one of Europe's brightest young defenders thanks to his defensive composure, aerial dominance and confidence in possession.
Liverpool believe Jacquet will strengthen competition in defence and could develop into the long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk, or form part of the club's future backline alongside the Dutch captain.
Jacquet arrives at Anfield while recovering from a shoulder injury sustained towards the end of last season with Rennes. The club is optimistic he will be fit in time for pre-season preparations. His arrival follows Liverpool's unsuccessful attempt to sign Marc Guéhi during the previous transfer window.
