Azam FC have continued strengthening their squad ahead of the new season after completing the signing of Belgian centre-back Henri Braham Stanic from South African club Stellenbosch FC.
The 23-year-old defender is expected to add quality and competition to the Chamazi-based club's backline as Azam aim to challenge for success in both the NBC Premier League and continental competitions.
Born on July 18, 2002, in Jette, Brussels, Belgium, Stanic has Congolese and Togolese heritage. Standing 1.94 metres tall and naturally right-footed, he is regarded as a modern central defender known for his aerial strength, physical presence, and ability to build attacks from the back.
His football journey began at the renowned Anderlecht Neerpede Academy, one of Belgium's leading youth development centres. During his time there, he played alongside current Manchester City star Jérémy Doku and earned a call-up to Belgium's Under-16 national team in 2017.
After leaving Anderlecht, Stanic continued his development across several European clubs. He joined OH Leuven before moving to Latvian side FK Liepja, where he made 28 appearances and scored five goals.
He later played for FK Jerv in Norway before joining Balzan FC in Malta, where he featured in 28 matches and scored three goals. His performances earned him a move to Stellenbosch FC in 2025.
At Stellenbosch, Stanic became an important part of the club's defensive unit in both domestic competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup, impressing with his composure under pressure and dominance in aerial duels.
Azam FC believe the signing will significantly strengthen their defence, thanks to the experience Stanic has gained across European and African football. In addition to his defensive qualities, he is also recognised for his passing ability and his role in initiating attacks from deep positions.
