Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Wallace Karia has explained why the federation plans to introduce the Video Support (VS) system as an alternative to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) starting from the 2026/27 football season.
Karia said the decision was driven by the high costs involved in purchasing, operating, and maintaining the VAR system, which currently places a significant financial burden on Tanzanian football.
He explained that the Video Support (VS) system is a more practical and affordable solution that matches the country's current financial capacity while still helping improve the accuracy of refereeing decisions in league matches and other competitions organized by TFF.
According to Karia, the federation will continue investing in football technology step by step to ensure Tanzanian football keeps pace with modern developments while remaining within its financial means.
