Former Yanga head coach Pedro Goncalves is in talks with AS FAR over becoming the club’s new head coach.
AS FAR parted ways with their previous head coach Alexandre Santos after the team failed to qualify for next season’s CAF Champions League, finishing fourth in the Moroccan top flight.
Goncalves has been without a club since he was dismissed by Yanga on May 6 this year. The Yanga leadership made the decision shortly after the team secured a 1-0 victory over KMC FC at KMC Complex Stadium.
Following the decision, the technical bench was handed over to Abdihamid Moalin and Patrick Mabedi, who served in interim roles until the end of the season and successfully guided the team to retain the Premier League title.
The Portuguese coach managed Yanga for a large part of the season after taking over from Romain Folz, who was also dismissed earlier in the campaign.
Yanga and AS FAR were placed in Group B during the group stage of the CAF Champions League in the recently concluded season. AS FAR lost their away match against Yanga in Zanzibar but won the return fixture in Morocco. They progressed to the quarter-finals and advanced all the way to the final, where they were defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns.
