Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães has reportedly informed the club's hierarchy of his desire to leave at the end of the season and join Premier League champions Arsenal. Reports suggest the North London club have stepped up their pursuit of the Brazilian midfielder.
Arsenal are said to be preparing a £60 million bid for Guimarães after their initial £55 million offer was rejected by Newcastle. However, no formal negotiations have taken place between the two clubs, with Newcastle continuing to value their captain at more than £100 million.
Despite Newcastle's determination to keep hold of their skipper, reports indicate that Guimarães' desire for a new challenge could influence future talks. The 28-year-old remains under contract until 2028, but the club's failure to secure UEFA Champions League football is believed to be a major factor behind his wish to leave.
Should the transfer be completed, Newcastle would lose one of their most influential players and captain, while Arsenal would significantly strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.
