'Waziri wa Raha' Retires from Professional Football.

Former Yanga SC midfield maestro Mahlatse "Skudu" Makudubela, famously nicknamed "Waziri wa Raha" (Minister of Entertainment), has officially announced his retirement from professional football, bringing to an end a remarkable 17-year career filled with success, trophies, and unforgettable memories across Africa and beyond.

The South African star represented several prestigious clubs throughout his career, including Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, Young Africans SC (Yanga SC), AS Vita Club, and Wiliete FC. During his playing days, he won multiple titles, including the MTN8, Telkom Cup, and the Tanzania Mainland Premier League (NBC Premier League) with Yanga SC.

In his retirement statement, Skudu revealed that his football journey began in 2004 at the SAFA Transnet School of Excellence before he went on to play professionally in countries such as South Africa, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola. He said every club he represented and every stadium he played in helped shape him into both a better footballer and a better person.

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the clubs he played for, his coaches, teammates, medical staff, kit managers, and the fans who supported him throughout his career. According to Skudu, football taught him discipline, unity, and love while giving him the opportunity to fulfill his dreams.

Skudu further revealed that although he is retiring as a player, he is not leaving football behind. His next chapter will be in coaching. He said it is now time to "hang up his boots" and pick up the whistle, with the ambition of continuing to contribute to the growth of the game from the technical bench. During his time at Yanga SC, Makudubela became one of the club's most admired midfielders thanks to his creativity, vision, ability to create scoring opportunities, and unique style of play. These qualities earned him the affectionate nickname "Waziri wa Raha" (Minister of Entertainment) among fans.

With his retirement, African football bids farewell to one of the most gifted midfielders to grace its leagues. We wish Mahlatse "Skudu" Makudubela every success in his new coaching career and in life after football.
