England national team head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he will remain in charge of the Three Lions until the Euro 2028 finals, despite England's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina in Atlanta.
England took the lead through Anthony Gordon, but Argentina fought back with goals from Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez to secure a place in the final.
Tuchel stated that he has no intention of stepping down, insisting that he will continue carrying out his responsibilities according to his contract. His position has also received backing from the Football Association (FA), which confirmed its continued confidence in the German coach ahead of Euro 2028.
The former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager took charge of England in January 2025 and later extended his contract until 2028 after guiding the team through an unbeaten World Cup qualifying campaign. His coaching staff, including Anthony Barry, Henrique Hilário, Nico Mayer, and James Melbourne, will also remain part of the technical team until then.
Despite FA support, Tuchel has faced criticism from some football analysts over his tactical decisions against Argentina, particularly his switch to a five-man defensive system after England took the lead. The change was viewed by some as reducing England's attacking threat and allowing Argentina to regain control of the match.
Following their World Cup exit, England will now focus on the third-place playoff against France, while Tuchel begins preparations to build a squad capable of challenging for the Euro 2028 title, a tournament that will be hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
