Chukwu is a free agent after his contract with Singida Black Stars expired. The Singida-based club had been in talks with him over a contract extension, but the negotiations are believed to have broken down after Yanga entered the race for his signature.
It now appears to be only a matter of time before Chukwu joins the Tanzania Mainland champions, replacing Mohamed Damaro, who has returned to Singida Black Stars after the end of his six-month loan spell.
Chukwu was one of Singida Black Stars' key players over the past two seasons, proving capable of playing both as a defensive midfielder and as a central defender.
The Nigerian joined Singida Black Stars from Rivers United of Nigeria, a club that faced Yanga in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup during the 2022/23 season, losing 2-0 in Nigeria. Chukwu was part of that Rivers United squad.
