Just hours after Simba SC announced that it had reached an agreement to extend the loan deal of striker Selemani Mwalimu, Wydad Athletic Club (Wydad AC) issued a statement denying the claim and warning that it would pursue legal action.
In an official statement posted on the club's social media channels, the Casablanca-based side said that no agreement had been reached with Simba regarding the player and described the reports as false.
Wydad emphasized that Selemani Mwalimu remains their legally contracted player and is part of the coaching staff's plans for the upcoming season. The club said he is expected to return to the squad as soon as possible.
"The management of Wydad Athletic Club wishes to inform the public and our supporters that the information circulated by Simba Club regarding a new agreement involving Selemani Mwalimu is false. We have not signed any agreement with that club," the Moroccan club said in part of its statement.
Wydad also stated that it will file official complaints with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against Simba SC over what it described as violations of player registration procedures and deliberate misinformation intended to damage the club's reputation.
The dispute has created confusion, as sources within Simba's leadership have indicated that communication had taken place with Wydad and Mwalimu's representatives throughout the process of finalizing his registration.
