The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is reportedly considering legal action against individuals and organizations accused of spreading false information about Argentina's national team and its players during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports circulating online, the proposed legal action could include defamation lawsuits against individuals or entities alleged to have published unsubstantiated claims, manipulated images or videos, and accusations made without evidence against the team and its players.
It is also reported that the AFA does not intend to target only major media outlets, but may also pursue individual accounts on social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and other networks that are alleged to have shared the disputed content.
The reports further claim that the AFA's legal team has already begun gathering evidence, including social media posts, images, videos, and other materials that could be used if formal legal proceedings are initiated.
However, as of now, the AFA has not issued an official statement confirming that any lawsuits have been filed. If such action is ultimately taken, it could become one of the most significant legal efforts against alleged misinformation campaigns involving international football.
