Nigerian midfielder Morice Chukwu has ended plans to continue playing for Singida Black Stars after rejecting a new contract, with reports indicating that he is close to joining Tanzanian champions Yanga SC.
Chukwu, who was an important member of the Singida BS squad, is not part of the team preparing for the CECAFA Kagame Cup tournament in Rwanda. His absence has strengthened reports of his departure after failing to reach an agreement with the club over a new deal.
Sources within Yanga's leadership indicate that the club has already completed major steps in securing the signing of the versatile midfielder, who can play in several positions, including central midfield and central defence.
According to the reports, it is only a matter of time before Yanga officially unveil Chukwu as their new player and he begins a new chapter with the club, which has already started preparations for the upcoming season at Avic Town.
Chukwu is expected to fill the position that was targeted for Mohamed Damaro, whom Yanga had planned to sign permanently after the end of his six-month loan spell. However, that move has been cancelled, with Damaro returning to Singida BS where he remains under contract.
Chukwu's arrival is expected to strengthen Yanga's squad due to his ability to play multiple roles and his experience in Tanzanian football. The champions continue to improve their squad ahead of a demanding new season featuring domestic competitions and continental challenges.
