The French Football Federation (FFF) has officially appointed Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach of the France national team, succeeding Didier Deschamps following the end of his 14-year tenure. Zidane takes over after establishing himself as one of football's most successful managers during his time at Real Madrid, where he guided the Spanish giants to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018, as well as the 2019/20 La Liga crown. His remarkable achievements have earned him a place among the world's most respected coaches.
He succeeds Didier Deschamps, who led Les Bleus to 2018 FIFA World Cup glory and reached the finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2016. Deschamps' reign came to an end after France were eliminated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals before losing the third-place playoff.
Widely regarded as one of France's greatest-ever footballers, Zidane captained the nation to victory at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000. He now begins a new chapter as national team head coach, with the responsibility of leading France back to international success. His first match in charge is expected to be against Türkiye in the UEFA Nations League.
