Besiktas’ hopes of signing Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah have hit a stumbling block after negotiations between the two sides were put on hold due to financial differences.
The Turkish club had shown strong interest in signing Salah following his departure from Liverpool, believing that the forward’s experience and quality would provide a major boost to their squad.
However, the deal has become increasingly difficult after the two parties failed to reach an agreement over financial terms.
Besiktas sporting director Önder Özen confirmed that discussions had taken place and that the early stages of negotiations had progressed well, but difficulties emerged when the talks moved to financial matters.
According to reports, issues involving personal terms, image rights, and other costs related to the transfer package have become major obstacles, forcing Besiktas to temporarily halt the process.
"We made an offer to Salah, but his representatives presented financial demands that made negotiations difficult. We have limits in our recruitment strategy and cannot exceed the level we have set," Özen said.
Earlier reports suggested that Salah was close to joining Besiktas, but his agent Ramy Abbas had previously denied that any final agreement had been reached regarding the player's future.
For now, Besiktas have not completely closed the door on the potential transfer, but the club has made it clear that it will not submit an offer beyond its financial limits. The club is waiting to see whether Salah’s representatives are willing to accept the terms that have been proposed.
Salah, who has built a remarkable legacy in world football after several successful years at Liverpool, continues to attract interest from various clubs due to his goalscoring ability, experience at the highest level, and commercial value.
