Four clubs representing Tanzania in the 2026/2027 CAF international competitions are expected to officially learn their opponents this Thursday, August 6, when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts the preliminary round draws for the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) and CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC).
The event will take place at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, and will be broadcast live, officially launching the journey of the new African club competition season.
According to the schedule released by CAF, the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) draw will begin at 2:00 PM East Africa Time (EAT), followed by the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) draw at 3:00 PM.
During the draw, Tanzania Premier League champions Yanga, along with their rivals Simba SC, will discover the teams they will face in the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League, while Azam FC and Singida Black Stars will wait to learn their opponents in the CAF Confederation Cup.
After the draw is completed, all teams will have less than a month to finalize their preparations before beginning their continental campaigns. The first preliminary round matches are scheduled to be played between September 4 and 6, 2026.
According to the CAF calendar, the group stages of both competitions will begin on November 27, 2026, and run until January 23, 2027. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be played between February and April 2027, while the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup finals are expected to take place in May 2027.
Football fans in Tanzania are now turning their attention to Cairo, waiting to see which teams will stand in the way of the country’s representatives as they pursue major success on the African football stage.
