Simba SC Leadership Dispute Deepens as Magori and Mangungu Clash Over Emergency General Meeting

The leadership dispute within Simba SC has continued to intensify after the club’s Board of Directors Chairman, Crescentius Magori, responded to remarks made by Simba SC Chairman Murtaza Mangungu regarding the process of convening an Emergency General Meeting.

Mangungu had earlier stated that all procedures for calling the meeting were followed in accordance with government directives and the Simba SC Constitution, while insisting that he remains the legitimate chairman elected by the club’s members.

Speaking about the steps taken, Mangungu said any changes within Simba should be made by the club’s members while following the established legal procedures and regulations.

“I am the Chairman of Simba SC because I was elected by the members. Those who make changes are the members of Simba SC, and there are legal requirements that must be followed when making such changes,” Mangungu said.

He added that he received directives from the government and forwarded them to members of the Board of Directors through the Board Chairman before proposing a date for the Emergency General Meeting.

However, the statement has drawn a response from Magori, who has insisted that Simba’s operations must follow the club’s Constitution and that the Board of Directors is the body responsible for overseeing the club’s affairs.

Speaking after Mangungu’s remarks, Magori said:

“Simba is governed by the Board, and I am the Chairman of the Board. On Friday, we agreed that the meeting would be held today. What happened yesterday does not have the approval of the Board.”

Magori questioned the legitimacy of some decisions that he said were made without the involvement of the Board, stating:

“Who discussed that Sunday meeting? Those names of people to remove, including Kapuya, George, Patel and others, who did he discuss them with? And which Board? We have scheduled a meeting, and he knows about it.”

The Board Chairman also stressed that no individual has greater authority than the club’s Constitution, challenging Mangungu to identify the clause that grants him such powers.

“Show me the section of the Constitution that mentions Mo. Even if he has spoken with Mo, is Mo the Board? Simba is run by the Constitution, not personal judgment. Show where the Constitution says the Board has been dissolved.”

Magori claimed that some statements issued recently have misrepresented the reality of Simba’s leadership structure, emphasizing that the club is not run according to the wishes of one individual.

“Simba is governed by its Constitution, not Magori, Mangungu, or Mo.”

Speaking about his role at the club, Magori said he is a long-serving Simba member and that he will continue protecting the club’s interests.

“I am a Simba member. Simba fans should thank Mo for appointing a true Simba member. I will defend Simba’s interests. I am more Simba than the person who was there speaking.”

The dispute has now increased pressure within one of Tanzania’s biggest football clubs, with Simba supporters closely watching the upcoming Board meeting and the next steps regarding the future of the club’s leadership.
