Moroccan club RS Berkane have officially appointed Portuguese coach of Cape Verdean descent Pedro Leitão Brito, popularly known as Bubista, as their new head coach on a two-year contract running until 2028. He replaces Moine Chaâbani, who left the club to take charge of the Tunisia national team.
Bubista arrives at RS Berkane after an impressive spell as head coach of the Cape Verde national team, where he made history by guiding the country to their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification in 2026. Under his leadership, Cape Verde reached the Round of 32 at the tournament before being eliminated by Argentina after a competitive match that went into extra time.
His achievements earned him recognition as the 2025 African Coach of the Year, while he also guided Cape Verde to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He now begins a new challenge at club level with RS Berkane.
At RS Berkane, Bubista will be tasked with maintaining the club's recent success after they won the Moroccan league title in 2025 and finished runners-up last season. The Portuguese tactician is expected to lead the team in domestic competitions and the CAF Champions League next season.
