Uruguay striker Darwin Nuñez has completed his loan move to Turkish club Trabzonspor from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, marking his return to European football and bringing him back together with his former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.
The 28-year-old joined Trabzonspor after struggling to secure a regular place in Al Hilal's starting lineup, with competition for places in attack increasing following the arrival of Karim Benzema.
Under the terms of the loan agreement, Trabzonspor will contribute €8 million towards Nuñez's salary, while Al Hilal will cover the remaining portion of his €22 million annual salary.
Nuñez's arrival also reunites him with Salah. According to the reports, Trabzonspor's management consulted the Egyptian forward before completing the deal, with Salah reportedly supporting the club's decision to bring in his former Liverpool teammate.
Nuñez joined Al Hilal from Liverpool for a reported €53 million last season but failed to reach the level expected of him during his time in Saudi Arabia.
His return to Europe with Trabzonspor gives Nuñez an opportunity to rediscover his form and rebuild his transfer-market value, while also giving him the chance to compete in European competitions with the Turkish club.
