Arsenal have made a strong start to the 2026/27 season, sending a powerful message by defeating Manchester City 3-0 to win the Community Shield at Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
The victory gives Arsenal their first trophy of the season, while Manchester City officially begin a new era under head coach Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure. The match was also Maresca’s first competitive game in charge of City.

Manchester City attempted to get back into the game, but Arsenal maintained their organisation and continued to threaten in attack.

In the 28th minute, Arsenal scored their second goal through Kai Havertz, who headed home after being set up by Christos Tzolis.
Tzolis, one of Arsenal’s new signings, was among the standout performers, playing a direct role in several attacking moves that caused City problems.
Arsenal went into half-time with a 2-0 lead.
Ødegaard Completes the Job
The second half brought little change to the pattern of the game. Arsenal continued to dominate, with Martin Ødegaard adding a third goal in the 48th minute after the ball fell to him inside the penalty area.
The goal put Arsenal 3-0 ahead and left City with a major task if they were to find a way back into the match.
City Face a Tough Challenge
Manchester City enjoyed periods of possession and created several opportunities, but Arsenal were more effective in both their use of chances and defensive organisation. Goalkeeper David Raya also made several important saves, including efforts from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.
For City, this is a difficult start to a new era following Guardiola’s departure, with Maresca now tasked with rebuilding the team. Arsenal, meanwhile, have shown early signs that last season’s Premier League title was no fluke.
