The injury suffered by Simba SC goalkeeper Mahamadou Tanja Kassali during yesterday’s match against Kagere Sugar has raised questions over who will be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during this period of the season.
Kassali sustained an injury that could keep him out of the squad for some time, leaving Simba increasingly reliant on Hussein Abel in the goalkeeping department.
Another challenge for Simba is that the transfer window has already closed, while the club did not sign another goalkeeper.
As a result, the technical bench will have to rely on the options already available within the squad.
Hussein Abel could now be handed a bigger responsibility to protect Simba’s goal in the upcoming matches and prove whether he can handle the pressure of being the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during a highly competitive season.
Meanwhile, Yakoub Suleiman has yet to return to full fitness after being sidelined by an injury he suffered last season.
His situation further reduces Simba’s options in the goalkeeping position.
For now, the attention of Simba fans is firmly on Hussein Abel.
The question remains, Can he prove to be good enough for Simba and hold the fort between the posts until Kassali returns?
