Yanga SC President Engineer Hersi Said, Simba SC Chairman Murtaza Mangungu, and Yanga Vice President Arafat Haji joined other leaders, family members and football stakeholders to bid farewell to former Yanga President Francis Mponjoli Mwakalukwa Kifukwe at a ceremony held at Karimjee Hall in Dar es Salaam.
Kifukwe passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, in India, where he had been receiving medical treatment. He served as Yanga president in the 2000s, a period during which the club signed several players who went on to become prominent stars, including Saimon Msuva and Jerry Tegete. He later continued serving as a member of Yanga’s Board of Trustees until his death.
The presence of Simba leaders at the farewell ceremony highlighted the unity within Tanzania’s football community, as the two traditional rivals came together during a period of mourning to honour a former Yanga leader and recognise his contribution to the club’s history and Tanzanian football.
