Today’s Premier League matches produced a variety of results, with Brighton & Hove Albion securing a big victory, Manchester City collecting three crucial points, and Liverpool being held to a draw by Newcastle United. The day once again highlighted the intense competition at the start of the new league season.
Brighton delivered a dominant performance by thrashing Aston Villa 4-0. Brighton started strongly and took an early lead after an own goal from Victor Lindelöf in the 8th minute. De Cuyper then added a second in the 18th minute, before Hinshelwood scored twice within two minutes, in the 30th and 31st minutes, giving Brighton a commanding lead at halftime.
Manchester City also secured a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth. Bournemouth took the lead through Tavernier in the 26th minute, but City turned the game around in the second half through Marc Guéhi in the 84th minute and Joško Gvardiol in the 90+1st minute. In another match that delivered drama until stoppage time, Newcastle United and Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw. Newcastle made a fast start through Anthony Elanga in the 5th minute, before Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool in the 55th minute. Willock restored Newcastle’s lead in the 57th minute, but Liverpool found an equaliser through Dominik Szoboszlai from the penalty spot in the 90+9th minute.
The result saw both teams share the points in a match that remained tense right up until the final whistle.
