Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso says he would not be surprised if midfielder Enzo Fernández leaves Stamford Bridge during the current transfer window, with the player’s future still uncertain amid interest from Manchester City.
Fernández has been linked with Manchester City for some time, with reports suggesting that the club is preparing to make an official offer to Chelsea.
However, no final agreement has been reached between the two clubs, with Chelsea reportedly demanding a fee of around £120 million before allowing the midfielder to leave.
Alonso said he would like Fernández’s future to be resolved as soon as possible so Chelsea can plan their squad with greater certainty. The Argentine midfielder remains part of the Chelsea squad and came off the bench during their 3-2 victory over Fulham in their opening Premier League match of the season.
Manchester City are continuing to explore the possibility of signing Fernández, while Chelsea are also considering potential replacements should the transfer be completed before the window closes.
Reports claiming that City have already reached an agreement with the player, however, have yet to be confirmed by reliable sources.
