Barcelona have reached a surprise agreement with Arsenal to sign Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus
The 29-year-old is expected to travel to Spain early this week for his medical, with Arsenal already giving him permission to leave and complete the formalities of the transfer.
Barcelona are reportedly set to pay €10 million plus add-ons for the striker, a relatively low fee compared with his estimated market value of between €16 million and €17 million.
The transfer comes after several days of uncertainty over Jesus’ future at Arsenal, with the forward having been left out of first-team training as he prepared for a potential departure before the transfer window closes.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the move was driven by Barcelona sporting director Deco, with the Catalan club hoping to complete the deal within the next 24 hours.
Jesus’ arrival is expected to strengthen Barcelona’s attacking options and help fill the gap left by Robert Lewandowski following his departure from the club. Barcelona had also been searching for a central striker after failing to sign Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid.
