Yanga secured an important away result after holding Gaborone United to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
Seleman Mwalimu “Gomez” scored the crucial away goal late in the match, finishing off a backheel assist from Mudathir Yahya.
Yanga dominated the game for much of the encounter, while Gaborone United adopted a more defensive approach, effectively “parking the bus.”
Gaborone United took the lead in the first half through a free-kick just before the 18th minute.
Overall, the 90 minutes were largely controlled by Yanga, with perhaps their biggest challenge being breaking down Gaborone’s defensive wall, as the hosts defended with 10 players behind the ball.
However, in the dying minutes, Gaborone United lost concentration when a through ball from Maxi Nzengeli found Mudathir Yahya, who produced a backheel pass for Mwalimu to finish.
Yanga now have 90 minutes at home to secure the result they need to advance to the first qualifying round, with the advantage of an away goal.
