Gaborone United head coach Sean Connor has made it clear that his team will not approach the second leg against Yanga with fear, believing that the greater pressure will be on the hosts as they play in front of their home supporters.
Gaborone United are expected to take on Yanga on Saturday at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Connor said he understands the size of the task ahead, but believes his squad has what it takes to give Yanga a difficult match and fight for a result that would help them progress.
The coach said Yanga will enter the match carrying significant expectations because they are playing at home, with the fans, media and the club’s environment adding to the pressure on the hosts.
He said Gaborone United want to use that situation as an opportunity to play without excessive pressure and force Yanga into making mistakes.
Despite believing that the pressure is on Yanga, Connor has not hidden his respect for the Wananchi squad.
He said they have identified Yanga’s strengths, highlighting the quality of their players, their pace and the contribution of the technical bench as factors Gaborone United will have to deal with.
