Tanzania’s U20 national team, Ngorongoro Heroes, will begin their campaign today, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when they face Rwanda in their opening Group A match of the CECAFA U20 AFCON qualifying tournament. The match will be played at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
Tanzania enter the match as hosts of the tournament and defending CECAFA U20 champions, while Rwanda are among the teams competing for a place in the knockout stage from Group A, which also includes Ethiopia. Under the tournament format, the group winners and the best second-placed team will advance to the semi-finals.
Rwanda arrive in Dar es Salaam after several weeks of preparation, including two friendly matches against Sudan U20. The Rwandan side has expressed readiness for the challenge against hosts Tanzania in the opening fixture.
Ngorongoro Heroes will now look to make full use of home advantage by starting their campaign with a victory, laying a strong foundation for qualification to the next stage and competing for the opportunity to represent the CECAFA region at the 2027 U20 AFCON in Ghana.
