Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has begun a special visit to Spain for talks with the management of FC Barcelona, with discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation in the development of football in Tanzania.
The talks cover several areas of football development, including talent development, technical advancement, national-team management, as well as learning from Barcelona’s experience in preparing for major football competitions. Tanzania is among the hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Uganda.
During the visit, Makonda is accompanied by officials and experts from the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, the National Sports Council (BMT) and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF). He is also expected to attend Barcelona’s match against Racing Santander, scheduled for September 16, 2026.
The visit is also aimed at creating opportunities for Tanzania to learn from and collaborate with one of the world’s biggest football clubs in areas that could contribute to the growth of Tanzanian football, particularly talent development, technical expertise and football administration.
