Chelsea have announced major changes to the club’s ownership structure, with Todd Boehly expected to end his involvement in the ownership of Chelsea. According to the club’s statement, subsidiaries of Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. will acquire all of the ownership shares currently held by Boehly, marking a significant change in the ownership structure of the Blues.
In addition to Boehly’s shares, Clearlake is also expected to purchase the shares held by Mark Walter. The move would give Clearlake full control of Chelsea, having previously been part of the ownership group alongside Boehly, Walter and Hansjörg Wyss.
Meanwhile, Hansjörg Wyss will remain a partner and key stakeholder within Chelsea’s ownership group. Despite the major changes to the ownership structure, Wyss will continue to be part of the club’s ownership setup and work alongside Clearlake going forward.
Reports surrounding the deal indicate that the agreement is valued at around £1 billion, highlighting the scale of the changes taking place behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge. Completion of the deal would significantly alter the balance of power within Chelsea’s ownership and place Clearlake in full control of the club.
The changes come as Chelsea continue to build the club and its operations for the long term. Clearlake taking full control could mark the beginning of a new chapter in the club’s history, with major changes now taking place at Stamford Bridge both on and off the pitch.
