CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has reiterated that Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda will remain the hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), dismissing reports suggesting that the tournament could be moved to another country.
Motsepe made the remarks on September 17, 2026, during his visit to Tanzania as part of CAF’s ongoing assessment of preparations for AFCON 2027. His visit included an inspection of Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam and a meeting with the Tanzanian Government to review preparations for the tournament. CAF said the visits are intended to assess progress, identify areas requiring further attention and ensure preparations remain aligned with the competition’s operational and infrastructure requirements.
AFCON 2027 will be the first edition in the competition’s history to be jointly hosted by three countries — Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. CAF has confirmed that the tournament will begin on June 19 and conclude on July 17, 2027, with the three host nations automatically qualified for the finals.
Motsepe’s visit comes as preparations enter a crucial phase, following an eight-day CAF inspection of key facilities across Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda earlier in September. After Tanzania, Motsepe is scheduled to travel to Kenya to meet government officials and inspect facilities earmarked for AFCON 2027.
