Ghana attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad preparing for their 2027 AFCON qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia, despite initially being included in head coach Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad.
Kudus made the decision as he continues to rebuild his fitness after spending around seven months on the sidelines with an injury. The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has only recently returned to competitive football and is working on regaining full fitness following an extended period of treatment and rehabilitation.
According to reports from Ghana, Kudus is expected to remain in England and continue his fitness programme under the supervision of Tottenham. The Ghana Football Association has already been informed of his decision, although it has yet to officially announce a replacement.
The Black Stars will begin their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 in Bouaké before hosting Gambia on September 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana are also scheduled to play a friendly against Morocco on October 4.
