Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has said that the Tanzania National Team belongs to the country and not to any private individual or company.
Speaking today in Dar es Salaam, Makonda said the Minister’s authority to oversee the sports sector is based on laws, policies and regulations, emphasizing that the National Team represents the country wherever it goes.
“The National Team belongs to the country, not to an individual company. That is why we have entrusted it with its responsibilities and supported it. Wherever the team goes, the country goes,” said Makonda.
Makonda also said that the Minister responsible for the sector is appointed by the President, and therefore the authority of the office should be respected in carrying out its responsibilities of overseeing the sports sector.
“They treat the Minister with disrespect, yet he is a presidential appointee overseeing the ministry that provides you with your livelihood,” said Makonda.
He made the remarks while addressing various issues concerning the sports sector and the management of the National Team in Tanzania.
