Simba SC Head of Information and Communications, Ahmed Ally, says the arrival of head coach Steve Barker has boosted confidence within the squad, particularly ahead of major matches such as the Kariakoo Derby against Yanga.
Ahmed said that since arriving at Msimbazi, Barker has never viewed Simba as a team that should be considered inferior to its opponents, describing the coach as having what he called “the arrogance of confidence.”
He added that this mentality is not new to Barker, pointing out that during his time in charge of Stellenbosch FC in South Africa, the coach also had the confidence to compete against Mamelodi Sundowns, one of the most successful clubs in African football.
The comments come as Simba continue preparations for the Kariakoo Derby against Yanga on October 10, 2026, with both teams heading into the clash having won their opening six league matches.
