Goalkeeper Abuutwalib Mshery made the most of his opportunity as Yanga SC secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Madagascar’s CFFA FC in the second round of the CAF Champions League, despite the absence of the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, Djigui Diarra.
Mshery was named in the starting lineup and featured in the important encounter, in which the Wananchi demonstrated their superiority by scoring four goals without conceding.
Diarra’s absence had attracted attention ahead of the match, but Mshery was entrusted with guarding Yanga’s goal and showcasing his ability in front of the club’s supporters.
Mshery’s journey to Yanga
Before joining Yanga SC, Mshery played for Mtibwa Sugar. Since arriving at the club, he has been competing for the goalkeeping position in a squad featuring strong competition among its goalkeepers.
Contract with Yanga SC
Mshery signed a three-year contract extension with Yanga SC, reportedly keeping him at the club until June 30, 2027.
National team experience
The goalkeeper has also been called up to Tanzania’s national team, Taifa Stars, giving him an opportunity to compete for a place among the goalkeepers representing the country in international competitions.
Despite the intense competition for places at Yanga, the match against CFFA FC gave Mshery an opportunity to demonstrate his ability when the team needed him.
The 4-0 victory ensured Yanga finished the match with a convincing result, while supporters had reason to discuss the goalkeeper’s contribution.
