Kenyan President William Ruto has announced that the newly built Raila Odinga Stadium is expected to be officially opened on January 5, 2027, with a match between German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch side Ajax scheduled to form part of the inauguration celebrations.
The stadium is reported to have a seating capacity of 60,000 and is among the sporting facilities expected to support Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The proposed clash between Bayern Munich and Ajax is expected to be a major attraction during the inauguration, given the two clubs’ prominent status in European football. However, final details regarding the match and the stadium’s opening arrangements should be confirmed through official sources.
Construction of the stadium forms part of Kenya’s broader efforts to strengthen its sports infrastructure ahead of AFCON 2027, a tournament expected to attract significant attention from football fans across Africa.
