Yanga Communications and Media Manager Ally Kamwe says the 1-0 victory over Geita Gold demonstrated the club’s ‘championship mentality’ of securing positive results even in difficult matches.
The match, played at KMC Complex on Tuesday night, saw the Wananchi play with 10 men for more than 75 minutes after attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki was shown a red card early in the first half.
Kamwe said the red card disrupted Yanga’s plans for the match, but the players’ fighting spirit and commitment enabled them to secure the victory and remain at the top of the league standings.
"We started the match well, but it is clear that the red card shown to Stephane Aziz Ki significantly changed the team’s plans."
"The technical bench had to change the system after losing an important player in midfield. But despite that challenge and the quality of Geita Gold, we showed a championship mentality by fighting until the end and taking all three points."

The victory was particularly important for Yanga as it ensured the Wananchi remain at the top of the league standings ahead of their match against arch-rivals Simba, which will be played on October 10 after the FIFA international break.
