St George head coach Milutin Sredojević ‘Micho’ has praised Yanga following their international friendly, predicting that the reigning Mainland Tanzania champions can achieve great things in this season’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL).
Micho made the remarks after an intense friendly played yesterday, Friday, in which Yanga secured a 1-0 victory over the Ethiopian side. Both teams used the match as part of their preparations and efforts to build up their squads.
Speaking after the match, the experienced African football coach acknowledged that Yanga currently have a strong and highly competitive squad that can help them go far in continental competition.
“Yanga are a very strong team at the moment. I predict that they will go far in the CAF Champions League this season. They have the quality, structure and players capable of competing against any big team in Africa,” said Micho.
Beyond the praise, Micho explained that the match was highly beneficial for his squad, which currently consists of many young players. He said losing to Yanga gave his youngsters an important lesson and valuable international experience that will help them prepare for the new Ethiopian Premier League season.
Yanga’s technical bench, led by head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, welcomed the victory while also expressing satisfaction with the overall performance produced by their players.
However, they acknowledged that there is still work to be done in attack to ensure the team makes better use of the chances created in high-level competitive matches.
