Yanga SC have continued to demonstrate their importance on the international football stage after 14 of their players joined various national teams for international duty during the current FIFA calendar window.
The league has been suspended for approximately 21 days to accommodate the FIFA schedule, with domestic competitions expected to resume once the international matches scheduled during this period have been completed.
Of the 14 players, 12 have been called up by their respective national teams for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Yanga are represented by players from six different countries during this qualifying period.
Tanzania are represented by Hussein Masalanga, Mohamed Mussa, Ibrahim Bacca, Mohamed Hussein, Mudathir Yahya, Bakary Mwamnyeto and Selemani Mwalimu, while goalkeeper Djigui Diarra is part of the Mali squad.
Meanwhile, Housseine Zakouani represents Comoros, Albert Kangwanda is in the Zambia squad, Peter Shalulile represents Namibia, while Duke Abuya is part of the Kenya squad.
In addition to the players involved in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Yanga also have two players on international duty with the Tanzania Under-20 national team.
They are Juma Abushiri, known as 'Chuga Boy', and Abdulnassir Mohamed, known as 'Casemiro', who are part of the Tanzania U20 squad for their youth international commitments.
The presence of 14 Yanga players in national teams makes the club one of the teams supplying a large number of players for international duty during the current league break.
Once the international matches are completed, the players are expected to return to their club and rejoin their teammates as they continue with the season’s competitive schedule.
