Yanga Executive Committee member Alex Ngai has hit back at people spreading reports and rumours about the club’s head coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, insisting that the coach remains firmly in charge of the Tanzania champions.
Ngai said some individuals were running campaigns and propaganda aimed at disrupting Yanga’s stability ahead of the major Kariakoo Derby against Simba, scheduled for October 10.
In a post on his social media page, Ngai alleged that some people had been prepared to spread information intended to tarnish Mngqithi or force him out of the club.
“What I have realised is that you are afraid of the man because he has said he wants the African title. Stop making things up and writing foolish stories. I hear you have been given iPhone 17s to spread propaganda. He is staying, and you will have him in the next derby, and the beating remains the same,” Ngai wrote.
The statement highlighted the support Mngqithi has received within Yanga, with the coach making an impressive start to the season.
Since arriving at Jangwani, Mngqithi has led the defending champions to victories in all six of their Mainland Premier League matches, while also guiding the team into the first round of the CAF Champions League.
In addition to those results, Mngqithi won the NBC Premier League Coach of the Month award for August 2026, further highlighting his strong start to life in Tanzanian football.
