Yanga SC Media and Communications Manager Ali Kamwe has praised the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for officially introducing a testing programme to detect the use of performance-enhancing substances, commonly known as doping, among football players.
The initiative was announced by TFF President Wallace Karia following debates and various allegations about the possible use of alternative methods and prohibited substances to enhance physical performance in domestic football.
Commenting on the decision, Kamwe said the move had come at the right time and represented a major breakthrough for Tanzanian football.
He noted that the process would go a long way towards protecting players’ health, safeguarding their talent and careers from the long-term effects of such chemicals, and ensuring a level playing field for fair and honest competition.
In his earlier announcement, President Karia explained that TFF had begun the process of establishing a special committee that would work closely with government authorities to oversee the testing programme and ensure that anti-doping regulations are fully enforced in accordance with the international guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
