Yanga SC defender Mohammed Hussein ‘Zimbwe Jr’ has admitted that the squad is not satisfied with its current position in the NBC Mainland Premier League standings, insisting that their main responsibility now is to defend the title they won last season.
Speaking to journalists ahead of tomorrow's Sunday clash against Kagera Sugar at KMC Complex, Zimbwe Jr said they understand their opponents' situation and the importance of securing all three points in the match.
However, he noted that Yanga also have targets they have yet to achieve, adding that the players are determined to fight and restore the team to the position expected of a club of Yanga's stature and ambitions.
“We know where our opponents are positioned in the league standings and what they need to get out of their current situation. However, we are also not satisfied with our current position because it does not reflect our ambitions.
“We are the defending champions, and our main objective is to ensure we successfully defend our title. That is our responsibility, and we will fight to achieve it,” Zimbwe Jr said.
In another development, the defender discussed the potential challenge posed by Kagera Sugar's technical bench, describing their coach as someone with extensive experience in Tanzanian football who also knows certain things about Yanga from his previous spell in charge of the club.
Nevertheless, Zimbwe Jr sought to reassure Yanga supporters, explaining that the technical bench under Simon Dladla has made thorough preparations, including analysing and studying Kagera Sugar ahead of the encounter.
“Kagera Sugar have a good coach with extensive experience in our league. We also know that he has coached Yanga before, so there are certain things about our club that he understands.
“I want to reassure Wananchi that we have a new technical bench with new coaches and new tactics. We have great confidence in our technical team because they have already done a lot of work analysing and studying Kagera Sugar,” he said.
