Red Arrows Champions Kagame Cup

The Kagame Cup 2024 has come to an end with the Red Arrows team of Zambia winning the championship after beating APR of Rwanda with a penalty 10-9 in the final game played at the KMC Stadium, in Dar es Salaam

Red Arrows becomes the first team from outside the East and Central Africa region to win the title since the tournament was founded in 1967, after 120 minutes of the final match ended in a 1-1 draw

In the normal 90 minutes, the teams finished by scoring the goals, Red Arrows starting to take the lead through Ricky Banda who used the ball in the 63rd minute before Mamadou Sy scored the goal in the 89th minute and the game went to extra time which they also failed to bind

Then came the penalties where the first five each hindered the goalkeeper and was followed by a penalty shot until the 10th penalty where APR scored the last one and the Red Arrows threw it into the net and gave the Zambian team the title and a sum of 30,000 dollars (more than 80 Million Shs)

This is the first time the first Zambian team to reach the Kagame finals, but also the first from outside the Cecafa Zone to win the title, as three different times teams from the Southern African Zone (Cosafa) reached the finals. but they ended in vain with closure

The first team to play in the finals of the tournament was Rio Tinto of Zimbabwe in 1982 when they lost to AFC Leopards of Kenya, then followed by Malawian teams, ADMARC Tigers in 1983 when they were also defeated by Leopards with 2-1 goals and Big Bullets played in 2021 and sleep 1-0 with Uganda Express.
