The ongoing saga surrounding the Kariakoo Derby between Yanga and Simba reached the Tanzanian Parliament on June 11, 2025, with the government stating it cannot interfere due to established national and international football regulations.
Makete MP, Festo Sanga (CCM), raised a supplementary question during the Q&A session, emphasizing that strengthening the national team includes enforcing sports laws and procedures.
Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, responded by saying that football affairs fall under the jurisdiction of relevant national and international bodies, specifically the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB).
He added that government intervention could risk FIFA sanctions, and reiterated the importance of respecting established football governance structures, noting that even government statements are based on official reports from these bodies.
