Title Race Tightens Between Yanga and Simba in Tanzanian Premier League

The race for the 2025/26 Tanzania Premier League title between Yanga and Simba is intensifying, and in simple terms, their battle is neck and neck at the top of the standings.

Yesterday, both giants were playing away matches. Yanga played at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya against Prisons and emerged with a dominant 5-0 win, while Simba, also away, secured a similar 5-0 victory at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora.

With that result, Yanga have now reached 76 points from 28 matches, while Simba follow closely with 75 points from the same number of games.

Both teams have two matches remaining. This Sunday, Simba will host Kagera Sugar, while Yanga will welcome Dodoma Jiji. Then on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the two sides will face each other in their rescheduled fixture that was initially set for March 8, 2025.

Azam FC sits in third place and also earned a commanding 5-0 win against Tabora United at Azam Complex, bringing their tally to 60 points with one game in hand.

Singida Black Stars also picked up a 2-1 win over Dodoma Jiji and remain in fourth place with 56 points.

Fountain Gate is heading toward a relegation play-off spot after a 1-0 loss to Coastal Union, while Tanzania Prisons is also at risk and must win their final match while hoping that Namungo FC loses its last game.

Prisons will end the season away against Singida Black Stars, while Namungo FC will face KenGold at home.
