Tanzania to Open CHAN 2025 Against Burkina Faso Tonight

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament is officially set to begin today, August 2, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, where Tanzania’s Taifa Stars will face Burkina Faso in the opening match, scheduled to kick off at 8:00 PM.

This marks the first time Tanzania is hosting the tournament in its history, co-hosting alongside Kenya and Uganda for this prestigious African competition.

Tonight’s game is expected to be highly competitive, with both teams’ coaches expressing confidence and ambition ahead of the clash.

Stars head coach Hemed “Morocco” has called on Tanzanians to show up in large numbers to support the team, assuring that his squad is ready for the tournament.

“We are ready. We have a strong squad and are prepared to face any team in this tournament. We’ve done enough preparation, and all players are fit,” Morocco told the press.

The coach added that the friendly matches played before the tournament have helped reduce pressure on the players, especially the younger ones in the team.

“The young players have performed well and are working effectively with the experienced ones. We believe we can perform well and leave the trophy at home,” he emphasized.

Speaking on behalf of his teammates, goalkeeper Aishi Manula said they are ready to fight to uphold the nation’s honor on home soil.

“We will fight to protect our home pride. We are proud to play on home ground and will do our best to win our opening matches,” said Manula.
