Two goals from Trezeguet secured Al Ahly a crucial 2–0 victory over Young Africans (Yanga) in a CAF Champions League match played at Borg El Arab Stadium in Egypt.
Yanga showed great discipline in the first half but lost concentration in the closing minutes of the half, allowing Trezeguet to head in the opening goal.
In the second half, Yanga head coach Pedro Goncalves made slight tactical changes by introducing Mudathir Yahya and Pacome Zouzoua in an attempt to search for an equalizer.
However, a lapse in concentration in the midfield once again benefited Al Ahly, who capitalized through a counterattack finished off by Trezeguet for his second goal.
Yanga created their best chances in the first half, but Maxi Nzengeli and Allan Okello failed to convert for their side.
Yanga will now return to Tanzania knowing they must win the return leg scheduled for next week at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
