Debate Continues Over Neymar’s Return to Brazil World Cup Squad

The call to bring star forward Neymar back into the Brazil national team for the 2026 World Cup continues to gain momentum, while head coach Carlo Ancelotti has emphasized that he will not be swayed by social media pressure in his squad selections.

Some Brazil players, including Vini Jr, have openly stated that Neymar’s presence is crucial for the team’s success, believing his experience and quality can help Brazil in the upcoming tournament.

Neymar, Brazil’s all-time top scorer with 79 goals, still hopes to participate in the 2026 World Cup despite recurring injuries that have sidelined him multiple times since 2023.

However, Ancelotti has not included Neymar in recent preparation squads, a move that has sparked major debate among fans and football stakeholders in Brazil.

Speaking on the matter, Ancelotti explained that squad selection is based on professional criteria, including player form, physical fitness, and contribution to the team, rather than external pressure or social media influence.

“Squad decisions are not based on social media or public opinion, but on what is best for the team,” Ancelotti stated.

This statement comes as Neymar himself was reported to express his feelings on social media following his omission, fueling further debate.

Despite this, there remains a possibility for Neymar to return to the squad if he continues to recover physically and demonstrates top form with his club, Santos.

However, time appears limited, with Brazil’s final World Cup squad expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
