Tanzania has moved up one place in the African club rankings released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following strong performances by its clubs in continental competitions.
According to CAF’s latest five-year assessment, Tanzania now ranks fifth in Africa, rising from sixth place. In this update, Tunisia, which previously held fifth place, has dropped to sixth.
These CAF rankings are based on the performance of clubs from each country in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup over a five-year period, with more recent seasons carrying greater weight.
Tanzania’s rise has been largely driven by the success of clubs such as Simba Sports Club and Young Africans Sports Club, which have consistently performed well and reached advanced stages in CAF competitions.
This season, Tanzania made history by having four teams reach the group stage for the first time. Young Africans and Simba qualified for the CAF Champions League group stage, while Azam FC and Singida BS reached the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
These achievements have helped Tanzania accumulate more points in the CAF ranking system, improving its overall standing among African nations in club football.
This rise is expected to boost the international profile of Tanzanian football and secure more representation for the country in future CAF competitions.
