Simba Crowned Muungano Cup Champions After Dramatic Win Over Yanga

At last, the tide has turned! Simba SC have been crowned Muungano Cup champions after a narrow 1-0 victory over their traditional rivals Yanga SC in a thrilling final at the New Amaan Complex.

The match was highly competitive across all 120 minutes, with both teams displaying determination, discipline, and tactical quality. The game ended goalless after the regular 90 minutes, and even in extra time, neither side could easily break the deadlock.

The decisive moment came in the final minutes. Attacking midfielder Clatous Chama was fouled inside the penalty area by Edmund John, forcing the referee to award a penalty. Showing great composure, Suleiman Mwalimu converted the spot-kick to score the only goal of the match and secure victory for Simba.

It was a hard-fought win built on discipline and resilience, as Simba players battled tirelessly until the final whistle. The result also ended Yanga’s strong run of recent derby performances.

Head coach Steve Barker and his technical bench deserve credit for the tactical approach that led to this success. The victory signals the beginning of a new era for Simba, with fans regaining confidence in their team.

Simba also dominated the individual awards in the tournament, with goalkeeper Djibril Kassali named Best Goalkeeper, Mbegu winning Best Young Player, Rushine de Reuck awarded Best Player of the Tournament, and Suleiman Mwalimu finishing as Top Scorer.

By winning the title, Simba take home a prize of TSh 150 million, while runners-up Yanga receive TSh 100 million.
