Egypt Cruise Past New Zealand 3–1 to Top World Cup Group G

Egypt recorded a strong victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating New Zealand 3–1 in a Group G match played in Vancouver.

The win marked Egypt’s first-ever victory in the history of the tournament and moved them to the top of the group with four points.

New Zealand Strike First

New Zealand were the first to score through defender Finn Surman, who headed home in the 35th minute from a corner delivered by Tim Payne, giving them a 1–0 lead.

Egypt ended the first half trailing, but came out strongly in the second half and completely changed the game.

Egypt Turn the Game Around

Egypt equalized through Mostafa Mohamed β€œZiko”, who scored a header in the 56th minute after a fine assist from midfielder Emam Ashour.

Moments later, Mohamed Salah scored Egypt’s second goal in the 67th minute with a composed finish after a flowing passing move involving Ziko, putting Egypt ahead 2–1.

Trezeguet Seals the Win

Mahmoud Hassan β€œTrezeguet” added the third and final goal in the 82nd minute with a header from a Mohamed Salah corner, sealing a 3–1 victory.

The result takes Egypt to four points at the top of Group G, while New Zealand remain on one point and face an uphill battle to progress.

Egypt now need at least a draw in their final group match against Iran to secure qualification to the round of 32.
