Another Major Blow for Yanga

Former Yanga Sporting Director Paul Matthews has joined South African club Marumo Gallants as their new Sporting Director ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Matthews leaves Yanga after just one season, during which he oversaw the club's technical operations, including strategic squad development, restructuring the football department, and working closely with the coaching staff to strengthen both the first team and the club's youth development programme.

Before joining Yanga in 2025, Matthews spent more than a decade at SuperSport United, where he built a strong reputation in player recruitment and talent development. He also held roles at AmaTuks, Jomo Cosmos, and Tembisa Classic, gaining extensive experience in player development and technical analysis.

Marumo Gallants have appointed Matthews as part of a wider overhaul of their football and administrative structure ahead of the new season, with the club hoping his experience will strengthen its operations and boost its competitiveness in South Africa's top flight.
